Ratings are off by default. Before enabling them in the toolbar popup, you are shown a disclosure explaining what the extension reads and sends. You can disable ratings from the popup at any time. Disabling stops new lookups and cancels pending work; requests already sent cannot be recalled.
When enabled, RateMySMU reads displayed instructor names in my.SMU Advanced Class Search and Shopping Cart, including the frames used by these screens, to display matching professor ratings. It checks the current page URL locally to ensure requests come from a supported screen; it does not retain or send that URL to RMP.
It doesn’t read or send student IDs, passwords, grades, financial information, course selections, or enrollment records. It doesn’t record your browsing history or add analytics.
The extension sends instructor names in HTTPS search requests to www.ratemyprofessors.com, restricted to Southern Methodist University. For an explicit profile mapping, it requests that public professor profile directly. Like any direct network request, these requests expose your IP address and normal browser connection information to RMP. They omit cookies and referrers; the extension doesn’t send your my.SMU page URL.
RMP returns public professor profile and rating information. Opening a profile or search link takes you to RMP in a new tab, where RMP’s privacy policy applies.
RateMySMU stores your enable/disable choice, instructor names, matched profile information, ratings, cache timestamps, and temporary retry/cooldown information in this extension's local browser storage. It reuses a matched result for 24 hours and an unmatched or ambiguous result for 15 minutes. Temporary failures are cached briefly to limit repeat requests. Expired records can remain stored until refreshed or cleared; expiration controls reuse, not automatic deletion.
Use "Clear cached ratings" in the toolbar popup to remove cached lookup records while preserving your enable/disable choice. A temporary service cooldown timestamp, which contains no instructor name, is retained to avoid repeated requests while RMP is unavailable. Disabling ratings retains the cache. Uninstall the extension to remove all of its local storage. We do not operate a server that receives your queries.
RateMySMU uses this information only to display professor ratings in the supported my.SMU screens. It doesn’t sell data, use it for advertising, or share it with additional services. Use of user data follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use restrictions.

The public copy of this policy is hosted by Cloudflare. Visiting that page sends normal connection information, including your IP address, to Cloudflare to deliver and protect the page. The page has no analytics scripts, forms, or added tracking cookies. Automatic rating lookups do not contact this policy website.
RateMySMU is independent of Southern Methodist University and Rate My Professors.
